Validating and Upgrading VET Trainers' and Teachers' Digital Skills


The coordinator of the v-Upgrates Project is the Institute of Civic Education (IDD) of the Leibniz University of  Hannover. 

The overall aim of the Institute is to enable students to acquire key skills and competences necessary for active citizenship and participation at all levels of social and political life.

The 14 researchers of the Institute have a strong record in developing innovative approaches to teaching and learning, including various projects that apply, adapt and test – in concrete learning situations – tools and policy approaches.  

Moreover they have expertise in the development and implementation of curricula, of national and international trainings and workshops for teachers and educational staff as well as in the development of educational materials and textbooks on civic education issues.

A key priority of their education and training endeavours is to improve the quality and attractiveness of VET and link it to civic education issues. 

Topics include:  

  • Developing school-business partnerships
  • Ensuring equitable access and participation in VET
  • Providing access to information and employee participation
  • Improving confidence through improvement of transversal skills such as civic competences and ICT skills

The focus lies on improving civic education for non-privileged  persons. Project expertise includes the development and coordination of  GRUNDTVIG multilateral project  “STEP IN! 

Building inclusive societies through active citizenship” (2012-2014) and Erasmus+ KA2- Projects „Non-Formal Learning Can Prevent Early School Leaving Engagement“ (2014-2016)  as well as  Leonardo-project “IVET- Venture – A participative approach to strengthen key competences of trainees“.
